After more excellent work from the diligent and polished Harper, it was time to meet one of northern clubland’s real unsung heroes - Stuart Eden.
Quite why this great singer and engaging comedian has slipped under the radar of the influential in our industry over the years is a real puzzle. As instinctive an entertainer as there is, Eden has funny bones and a syrup-smooth singing voice. The style is all about broad and bawdy attack and Eden’s camp comedy persona is now locked more than ever into gaining laughs through awkward truths and engaging frankness. Eden gagged and wise-cracked his way through an often problematic evening, before throwing in the odd well-turned song and asserting his authority on an unruly and inebriated segment of the audience at one stage. |
