The Amplifires history starts in late 2005 when David Brunt bought a guitar case from Steve Rawlinson via ebay and, after realising that Steve was just a couple of miles away, went to collect it. Steve was looking to form another band as was David so with shared musical interests - two pieces of the jigsaw in place! Meanwhile Steve already knew Sharon and her musical background. An opportunity had arisen earlier to play guitar in Sharon's presence and memorably the sound of Blondie's 'Call Me' guitar riff was quickly accompanied by Sharon's voice. Another piece of the jigsaw in place. Ted knew Steve from The Boat Inn in Cromford where they were trying to realise and sell plans to run a live music club for new, young bands to the owners - this would become Band Explosion. Co-incidentally, aside from his profession as a sound and lighting engineer, Ted also played drums for another local band. Yet another piece of the jigsaw in place.

All four pieces got into the same room around September 2005 and a gig at the Boat Inn quickly ensued on 22nd October 2005.

Professional commitments slowed their sonic assault but October 2006 launched The Amplifires on an unsuspecting world, playing their own material and eclectic covers. The first CD mini-album, DVD and CD EP were released during 2007 and stalwart Ted left the band in September, re-appearing occasionally as guest drummer, sound man and recording engineer - to be replaced by Ruth, whose audition in October 2007 was followed the day after by her first gig.

Appearances in quality venues and favourable reviews during 2007 and early 2008 have resulted in The Amplifires lining up small festival dates for the summer - see gig list for details as they are confirmed - to coincide with the release of their second CD mini-album.
